victory. they beat the carolina panthers 27-21. just their second game of the season. saturday morning belcher shot his 22-year-old girlfriend kasandra perkins and then turned the gun on himself outside the practice facility. he and perkins leave behind a 3-month-old daughter. casey wian has been talking to chiefs players and coaches, all of them trying to figure out what was wrong. let's talk a little bit first about croce crennel who saw belcher kill himself at -- what did he say that belcher said to him? >> well he hasn't said what belcher said to him specifically but what police have said is that belcher expressed this thankfulness to coach crennel and chiefs organization from giving him a chance to play in the nfl. he was from a small university and he worked really hard to get where he was. there was another member of chiefs staff who saw that he had a gun and called 911. the chiefs staff members who confronted belcher in the parking lot said they never felt like they were in any danger. at least that's according to police. but then he shot himself right in front of them. the pol

in front of his head coach and time president. by 10:00 a.m. the nfl has already informed the carolina panthers that they need to be in kansas city the next day to play a game, and by 3:00 p.m. the nfl is putting out press releases saying, wait a minute the game is going o-but the it's the decision of the chiefs' captain and coach who just saw a player blow his brains out in front of him. maybe the captains voted to do it. i don't know for sure if that is, in fact, true. why should that be the decision of the chiefs players? imagine a similar circumstance if a pilot saw something similar with their spouse and then said, well, i'm ready to fly a plane a few hours later? no, someone would step in and say you need a time-out. i'm interviewed a lot of nfl players, and what they say is that the playing field is the most dangerous bh you're distracted. the idea the game went on when players wrestle with the fact a teammate say murderer and also a suicide statistic at this point and then they were asked to go out and play a very violent, very dangerous sport is ridiculous. it speaks to the nf

will go on today at arrow shed stadium and the carolina panthers come to town to meet the chiefs, a one o'clock kickoff eastern time for that football game and what you said really has the mood down. not so joyous as it usually is in kansas city and jovan belcher the linebacker, according to police, pulled a gun and shot his girlfriend cassandra perkins during a domestic dispute and then drove from that home in kansas city, kansas on the person side of the kansas city area and drove here to the chiefs practice facility just down the road from arrowhead stadium where we are and he met with team general manager and the team coach, romeo cornell, thanked them for making him a nfl football player and then walked away and according to kansas city police he pulled a gun and shot himself ending his life. and i talked earlier with a team vice-president who said he couldn't believe what happened if anyone in this locker room were to do that, it wouldn't be jovan belcher. and yesterday, kansas city mayor sly james talked about this situation and how it's brought the entire mood of the city down. >>
